Workforce
All employers need a vibrant labor
supply. Manhattan has a population of citizens that represent a younger
profile with high levels of education and professional skills. More
than 23,000 students attend Kansas State University. Fort Riley, a
primary U.S. Army installation, is home to 19,000 troops and 4,000
civilian workers. Each year 4,000 K-State grads, nearly 2,000
transitioning Fort Riley military personnel, and hundreds of local
technical and community college grads give our employers an enormous
amount of attractive workforce options.
A recent study showed that 64% of K-State grads would stay in the area if they could find a job in their field with competitive pay.
Manhattan
is also part of the 90-mile Kansas Research Nexus corridor, which
includes Topeka and Lawrence. This area produces about 10,000 college
graduates annually, creating a strong regional talent pool from which
your business can draw.
Fort Riley has approximately 150 military service members per month transitioning out of the Army each month. In 2013, more than 3,000 service members are expected to transition out of the military from Fort Riley. Less than 10% of these Soldiers exiting the military are retiring. It is estimated that around 400 of these soldiers and their families plan on remaining in Manhattan region.
The Soldiers exiting the Army come from diverse career and technical specializations. They possess a variety of “hard” and “soft” skill sets.
